Nutritional Therapist Southampton Hampshire
What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based practice utilising dietary protocols/supplements and lifestyle modifications. The purpose is to support those looking to enhance their health and/or maximise their peak performance.
Nutritional therapists use the Functional Medicine Model as part of an integrative approach to health care. Functional medicine recognises the person as a whole rather than a collection of separate health concerns/symptoms.
The aim of using functional medicine is to discover what the underlying dysfunctions are in the body which may be creating a myriad of unexplained symptoms. If imbalances can be improved/rectified than health is likely to be optimised.
My role as a Nutritional Therapist is to gain an understanding of the events in your life that led you to your current health status. Your health story contains valuable information and often shows the connections in your life events to your symptoms.
Functional test (s) may then be recommended to uncover imbalances within the body. Many of these tests can be performed at home, where the appropriate kit will be sent to you.
A personalised lifestyle plan is then made for you. The plan will incorporate the use of nutrition (food/supplementation) and lifestyle modifications, designed to help you achieve your health goals.
How will the Nutritional Therapy Consultation Work?
Before the initial consultation a link will be sent for you to complete an online questionnaire two weeks before the meeting. This is important to complete before the consultation. The questionnaire helps me to better understand your needs and do any necessary research before we meet.
The minimum amount of appointments is two, both are equally important and follow up appointments are advised.
The initial consultation is called Understanding You, where we discuss your health history. This will take 1 hour and 30 minutes.
I will ask you questions to find out more about family health (parents, grandparents, siblings), your medical history; lifestyle, diet, use of supplements/medications and current health concerns.
By the end of the consultation you will be provided with some initial recommendations for diet and lifestyle. Functional tests are often recommended to further investigate an avenue of suspected imbalance in the body.
The 2nd appointment will then be scheduled which is a 1 hour appointment.
During the 1st and 2nd appointment the information you have given will be fully researched and a personalised nutritional and lifestyle plan will be made. If you have done any functional tests the plan will incorporate the appropriate recommendations made from the results.
The 2nd consultation is called A Plan of Action. This consultation is very important as you will be given an interpretation of the research, tests results and how they apply to you. The recommendations for supplements/nutrition/lifestyle will also be explained to you.
Although Nutritional Therapists cannot diagnose a condition, we can give you an explanation as to what may be creating your current health concerns.
Follow Up Consultation
In order to monitor your progress a follow up consultation will then be arranged 4-6 to refine your programme further.
